Online courses to support cities in defining their own way towards integrated and sustainable urban development

What is Sustainable MED Cities project?

The sustainable MED Cities project promotes a new integrated approach, offering longer-term sustainable solutions to spatial planning and management in Mediterranean cities. To support public authorities in driving the urban regeneration of Mediterranean cities the Sustainable MED Cities (SMC) project developed and tested an integrated and multi-scale open-source system consisting of three sets of indicators (at building, neighborhood and city scale), an online assessment platform, a collaborative platform, a decision-making methodology.

How to learn about Sustainable MED Cities methodology and tools

Two online courses are provided to enable Mediterranean cities to use effectively SMC methodology and tools. The courses are freely accessible to any interested individual, public administration or any other organization dealing with any aspect of sustainable urban development.

They are “self-learning” courses: no timetables and calendars are fixed, you can learn at your own pace, with the maximum time flexibility.

Most of the training material is available in 3 languages: English, French and Arabic.

The courses are completely for free.

Who are the courses aimed at?

The SMC courses are targeted to specific typologies of target groups:

  • decision-makers:

    if you are a manager in a municipality/public body or an urban policy maker or a decision maker dealing with plans and policies for a sustainable urban development, you can learn how to approach innovatively spatial planning and management.   • technichians:

    if you are an urban practitioner or operate as technical staff in a municipality/public body or you are a building designer, an urban planner or a professional dealing with any aspect of sustainable urban development, you can  learn how to use effectively SMC methodologies and tools.
